Abstract
Investigation of the Norrish type II photoreaction of alkyl aryl ketones on alumina, silica-gel, and water ice surfaces is reported. The reaction was studied in terms of the quantum efficiency and the photoproduct distribution as well as the influence of reaction temperature. A model in which the short-lived biradical intermediate interacts with the surface, in addition to polar effect on the excited triplet of ketone, is proposed. An application of alumina for microwave photochemical experiment is reported.
