A reduction of the food intake and consequently of the body weight gain was observed in rats drinking water with the highest bromide concentration (5 g bromide per liter). An increase in the relative weight of the thyroids and a significant decrease in the 24-h uptake of radioiodide by the thyroids were also found in these animals, especially in those fed a research low-iodine diet. The concentration ratio [I]/[Br] in the thyroids proved to be a very sensitive marker of even negligibly increased bromide intake in the rats. ER -
