Dostupná data s neuroendokrinními testy u dětí ukazují na odlišnosti v jejich neurobiologii od dospělých. Reakce serotonergního systému může být ovlivněna jeho zralostí. Byl dokumentován věkově podmíněný pokles aktivity noradrenergních neuronů v locus coeruleus.

The available data on drug provocation tests in children with psychiatric disorders indicate their neurobiology may be different from that adults. Responsivity of the serotonergic system to antidepressant treatment could be affected by relative maturity. An age- related decline in the activity of noradrenergic neurons in the locus coeruleus has been documented.
