Článek se věnuje vztahům Francie, považované za silný stát s dominantním rozhodujícím centrem, a Korsiky, reprezentující periferní společenství. Korsika se odlišuje od administrativního centra geograficky, kulturně i historicky, charakterizuje ji silné kolektivní vědomí a pokročilá institucionalizace regionálních reprezentantů. Lze tedy v této souvislosti hovořit o teritoriální cleavage. Prostřednictvím zkoumání vzájemných vazeb mezi předmětnou minoritní a dominantní kulturou lze konstatovat, že na Korsice proběhly všechny důležité fáze vývoje národotvorného hnutí periferního společenství a že právě poslední z nich vedla na Korsice k nutné kontramobilizaci centra. Politika francouzského centra vůči ostrovnímu společenství je již po desetiletí mixem represivních a vstřícných kroků, trvale vyřešit existující problémy se však vládním politikům prozatím nepodařilo.

This article deals with the relations beetween two different cultures existing within one state: the dominant one is represented by continental France and the peripheral one is the insular society of Corsica. Regarding cultural, historical and political differencies, distinct experiences of these two cultures, the collective sense of corsican community and the advanced institutionalisation of its ethnic-regional representants, the situation can be described as a centre-periphery cleavage. The Corsican society asking for autonomy within the state or even the separation deals in this case with domination of administrative centre. Considering the central establishment has the instruments used in delegitimation peripheral nationalist movements, this article reviews the historical backround of the problem in France and then it analyses the response of administrative centre to a Corsican independence struggle and its attempts for resolving it.
