Abstract
The study has followed relationship between baroreflex control and intima-media thickness of carotid artery (IMT). Twenty-one treated hypertensives (Hy: 47+-10 years) and 19 normotensive controls (Co: 46+-7 years) were tested. The difference in IMT between hypertensives (0.65+-0.20mm) and normotensives (0.53+-0.08mm) has been revealed (p < 0.01). The differences in BRS (Hy: 3.4+-1.5; Co: 5.7+-2.5 ms/mmHg) and BRSf (Hy: 5+-2; Co: 8+-4 mHz/mmHg) were also found (p <0.01). The negative significant correlation in 40 subjects was present between BRSf and IMT (r = -0.319, p<0.05), but relationship between BRS and IMT was insignificant. Significantly decreased baroreflex sensitivity together with increase thickness of the carotid wall and the negative correlation between both parameters could correspond with structural changes of the carotid wall in hypertensive patients.
Abstract (in Czech)
Studie sledovala vztah mezi baroreflexní kontrolou a tloušťkou stěny a.carotis. Vyšetřili jsme 21 hypertenzních a 19 normotenzních kontrol. U hypertenzních osob byl nalezen významný pokles baroreflexní citlivosti a větší tloušťka stěny a.carotis, negativní korelace mezi oběma parametry mohou korespondovat se strukturálními změnami stěn karotid u hypertenzních osob.
