V průběhu 18. a 19. století došlo k významným objevům archeologických lokalit starověkých kultur. Nalezené předměty uměleckého řemesla a mezi nimi i šperky měly zpětný vliv na současnou kulturu, která se snažila o napodobení, mimo jiné také tzv. archeologickým šperkem.
