We found significant association of selected genetic variants in the RAGE, SOD2 and PARP-1 genes with the presence of DN in type 2 diabetics and, in the case of RAGE and PARP-1, also with acceleration of DN onset. We therefore conclude that those htSNPs could be regarded disease markers of DN.
