TY - JOUR ID - 575981 AU - Baruš, Vlastimil - Kajerová, Vilma - Koubková, Božena PY - 2005 TI - A new species of Pterothominx Freitas, 1959 (Nematoda: Capillariidae) parasitising psittacine bird (Psittaciformes) JF - Systematic Parasitology VL - 62 IS - 1 SP - 59-64 EP - 59-64 PB - Springer SN - DOI101007 KW - new species KW - Pterothominx KW - Psittaciformes N2 - A new species, Pterothominx (Pterothominx) moraveci n. sp. (Capillariidae: Trichinelloidea) is described from Australian parrot Barnardius zonarius Shaw (Psittacidae: Psittaciformes), imported from Germany and kept in captivity in the Czech Republic. Males of the new taxon differ from all other species of the subgenus Pterothominx parasitising mainly galliform birds in having a shorter spicule (0.9251.338; mean 1.050) mm, shorter body length and different form of armed spicular sheath and bursa. Females differ in having the smallest eggs (0.040 0.050; mean 0.048 x 0.0200.025; mean 0.023) and by other morphometrical characters. From the species P. (P.) totani (Linstow, 1875) parasitising charadriiform birds, the new species differs in smaller number of stichocytes (females 4246, mean 44; versus 50-54), different form of the bursa and praebursal alae, and other characters. This is the only species of Pterothominx parasitising psittacine birds. ER -
