These group-housed mice exhibit a suppressed ambulation in the subsequent open field test compared to the controls without such an aversive social experience. This type of inhibited behaviour might be a model for testing of antidepressant-like drug activities. The present study demonstrates utilisation of the method for analysis of psychotropic antidepressant-like drug effects. Despite that effects of lamotrigine and gabapentin, advocated at present as antidepressants, did not resemble effects of other drugs tested, all clinically used antidepressants (citalopram, valproate, carbamazepine) produced very similar disinhibition of the behaviour suppressed by social defeats.
