TY - JOUR ID - 606264 AU - Povolná, Renata PY - 2005 TI - On the role of some interactive D-items in different genres of spoken English PB - Ústav anglistiky a amerikanistiky, Filozofická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy v Praze CY - Praha SN - 8073081083 KW - interactive discourse items - different genres of spoken English - verbal response - backchannel signal - no verbal reaction - spoken interaction - discourse function - clausal forms - you know - you see - I mean N2 - Based on the analysis of three different genres of spoken English taken from LLC, the author tries to contribute to the study of some interactive D-items, namely you know, you see and I mean, as response elicitors. These items, frequetly used to enhance the smooth flow of spoken interaction, are studied with regard to what they prompt from the current hearer. It becomes evident that the kind of reaction D-items prompt depends on their particular discourse function and the overall character of the speech situation in the given genre. ER -
