Abstract

Cílem tohoto článku je popsat a vysvětlit rasismus a xenofobii v České republice. Vycházím při tom ze současných teorií vysvětlujících rasismus a xenofobii jako důsledek špatné ekonomické situace, přílivu imigrantů, kulturní odlišnosti imigrantů od majority, současné modernizace, urbanizace a globalizace, které činí člověka nejistým a slabým, což ve svém důsledku vede k netoleranci. Starší teorie vysvětlují rasismus a xenofobii také jako snahu udržet hierarchii ve společnosti, což má ospravedlnit vykořisťování imigrantů. Abych mohla rasismus a xenofobii popsat a vysvětlit, analyzovala jsem data popisující předsudky, rasově motivovanou kriminalitu a podporu extremistických hnutí mezi českou populací. Z výsledků této analýzy vyšlo najevo, že v České republice nedochází k mnoha projevům rasismu, ale česká populace je značně xenofobní. Na výskyt rasismu a xenofobie má zřejmě největší vliv sociální klima daného místa a kulturní vzdálenost imigrantů či etnických menšin.

Abstract (in English)

The aim of this article is to describe and to explain racism and xenophobia in the Czech republic. As the basis for the study I chose some contemporary theories which explain racism and xenophobia as a consequence of worsening economic situation, increasing inflow of immigrants to the country, cultural differences between the majority and the immigrants coming from a different social context, modernisation, urbanisation and globalisation which make people feel unsure and weak what leads them to express intolerance towards others. Some authors explain racism and xenophobia as well as the result of the struggle to keep the hierarchy in the society in order to exploit the minority. I analysed data concerning prejudice, racially motivated violence and distribution of the partisans of extreme right and I found out that the level of the racism in the Czech republic in these days is not very high but that the Czech population is rather xenophobic. Racism and xenophobia are mainly influenced by the social climat of the place and the social distance between the minorities and majority.
