TY - JOUR ID - 618036 AU - Danielová, Kateřina PY - 2004 TI - To be or not to be in the Czech Republic: that is the question for ethnic minorities : Attitudes of the Czech population towards different ethnic minorities CY - Utrecht/Amsterdam KW - ethnic minorities KW - attitudes N2 - The aim of this paper is to show the differences between the attitudes of the Czech population towards different ethnic minorities and to try to interpret and explain them. The Czech republic is a country with a long communist history characterised by closed frontiers and processes of homogenization. Ethnically, it is today a very homogeneous country. Nevertheless, after the fall of the communist regime, the immigration and discussions concerning the rights of ethnic minorities arose and it is obvious that this change influences attitudes of people towards members of other ethnic groups which differ according to many factors. These are, firstly, characteristics of the ethnic minorities, for example their country of origin, their culture, their appearance and so on, secondly, characteristics of respondents, like their economic situation, their age, their education, location of their place of residence and so on. In this paper we try to find the most important of these factors. For this purpose we use data from a public opinion poll carried out by Centrum pro výzkum veřejného mínění, an organization studying peoples opinions. They date from 2001. ER -
