Soils and powdered milk were also ablated in the form of cast disks with epoxy resin. IR ablation was more suitable for soils and WC/Co samples, while for milk samples better correlation was obtained at 266 nm. The LA either combined with ICP-MS/OES or LIBS has already been proved to be an efficient tool for depth-profile analysis of layers. We proved that a nanosecond Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) without any beam shaper device is capable of providing LIBS depth profiles of Zn-coated steal sheets with observed interface shape/thickness approaching the experimental values found using GD-OES and EPXMA. IR-LA-ICP-OES was used for analysis of glazed tiles. A defocused beam made it possible to obtain averaged depth profile in contrast to EPXMA or UV lasers, where small spots enable to visualize mineral grains, structure and inhomogeneity, while the overall character is not distinct.
