N2 - The paper sums up selected findings of a qualitative research project focused on the issue of family socialization of childrens TV watching. The basic method of data collection used was semistructured in-depth interviews with 18 mothers of preschool children. Education in media in the family is a concept used to refer to purposeful ways of parental behaviour leading to influencing TV consumption by children and its effects. Empirical findings has shown that more or less sophisticated techniques of education in media in the family, i.e. specific strategies aimed at achieving their media-educational goals, were in the repertory of all mothers included in the research. Individual techniques and their typical combinations are described here.
