Abstract
We characterized 58 ET-positive S. aureus strains isolated in 14 cities of the Czech Republic between 1998 and 2004. Thirty-four isolates were the causative agents of toxic epidermolysis in neonates. On the basis of the above results the conclusion can be made that while the strains with genotype G2 were most prevalent in the Czech patients, S. aureus strains of different genotypes were also found and cannot be excluded as the causative agents of epidermolytic outbreaks in this country.
