Abstract

V originále

A group of 76 bacterial strains identified phenotypically as presumptive Aeromonas caviae was characterized by ERIC-PCR fingerprinting and compared to reference strains representing all described Aeromonas species. Biochemical traits revealed by environmental aeromonads were highly heterogeneous, however they matched the phenotypic criteria stated in the species description of A. caviae. All strains were typeable by ERIC primer and generated DNA fragments ranging from 200 to 3500 bp. Cluster analysis of ERIC-PCR fingerprints separated analysed strains into five clusters and grouped some of them with particular reference strains: A. caviae cluster (8 strains), A. hydrophila ssp. hydrophila / A. simiae cluster (11), A. media (13). Remaining two clusters (39 and 5 strains) were separated from all reference strains. All strains including selected representative strains grouped in individual clusters revealed typical visually very close basic fingerprint patterns implying that the biochemical identification of the particular strains as A. caviae is doubtful. Obtained results imply ERIC-PCR as a promising method applicable for fast, reliable and cheap screening of aeromonads isolated from the environment.
