Abstract

Vedle plurality toho, co – jako religionisté – zkoumáme, je ovšem třeba věnovat pozornost také pluralitě možností toho, jak k onomu mnohotvárnému objektu výzkumu teoreticky a metodologicky přistupujeme. Teoretické perspektivy v religionistice uplatňované sice nenabízejí tak nepřeberné množství možností, jako je tomu v případě objektu zkoumání, ale přesto se vyznačují určitou pluralitou přístupů, jež se snaží o usouvztažnění těla a náboženství, resp. o uchopení místa, role a významu těla a tělesnosti v jednotlivých náboženských tradicích. Přestože tyto dvě dimenze plurality („co?“ a „jak?“) lze od sebe oddělit pouze analyticky, v tomto příspěvku se zaměřím především na druhou z nich. Usiluji tedy o zmapování teoretického pole, ve kterém religionistika uchopuje vztah náboženství a těla. Bez nároku na úplnost nejdříve stručně nastíním teoretické a sociální předpoklady našeho religionistického úsilí o porozumění souvislostem mezi náboženstvím a tělem. V druhé části textu představím – prostřednictvím interpretace textů Mary Douglas a Marcela Mausse – teoretické perspektivy, které náboženství a tělo různými způsoby usouvztažňují a které se současnému religionistickému bádání nabízí jako užitečné konceptuální nástroje myšlení.

Abstract (in English)

Besides the plurality of our objects of inquiry it is equally crucial in the study of religions to pay attention to the plurality of theoretical and methodological possibilities we make use of when approaching our topics. In this paper my aim is to map the theoretical field in which we speak about the relationship between religions and the body. Firstly, I outline the theoretical and social preconditions of our current interest in understanding the various forms of interrelatedness between religions and the body. Secondly, via interpreting the classical texts of Mary Douglas and Marcel Mauss I demonstrate three theoretical perspectives, which concentrate on the relationship between religion and body in different ways and which could be used in recent study of religions as useful conceptual tools of thinking. More concretely I show the theoretical complementarity of a) the perspective focusing on the religious representations of the body, b) the perspective focusing on the body as representation of religion and c) the perspective focusing on the cultural/religious techniques forming the human body.
