Abstract
Year 2005 was, without any doubt, a super election year in Poland. For the very first time, voters elected a new government and a new president in the same year. It was very significant for the electoral year of 2005 that the presidential race completely overshadowed the parliamentary elections. Regardless of different dates, the two campaigns affected each other and were largely influenced by a set of mainly public corruption scandals related to the ruling post-Communist party Alliance of Democratic Left (SLD).
