In order to evaluate the functional importance of the TATS, one question to address is whether the surface and tubular transmembrane voltages differ at rest and during activity. We present here the theoretical background of the passive electrical properties of the interconnected ensemble formed with the surface membrane and the TATS membrane, the latter being simplified to a single compartment. We compare its behaviour with that of our model of ventricular cardiac myocyte with TATS. We conclude that both membrane compartments behave as a homogeneous electrical whole. ER -
