Abstract

Text se zamýšlí jak nad tím, co vlastně tibetské náboženské artefakty znamenají, co představují, jakou roli v tibetském buddhismu hrají, tak také nad tím, jak obtížně se všechny tyto záležitosti akademicky studují. Pojednává o tom, jak nesamozřejmý a nejednoduchý je přístup religionistický, tj. přístup vědecký. Příklad Santalového Buddhy, který tvoří jádro výpovědi, je k tomuto účelu zvláště vhodný, neboť zahrnuje jak mytologický, historický, tak i ritualistický aspekt celé problematiky.

Abstract (in English)

Part of the history of religions as well as religious history are also stories of artifacts which had or have religious significance. The history of religion focuses more on historical events; they follow a historical line of a story, whereas religious history, or history interpreted from the standpoint of a certain religion, follows a mythologic more than historic line. This statement can be well evidenced on a concrete example of a statue of the Sandalwood Buddha. This statue called Zandan Zhuu has, from the point of view of religious history, an origin that can be traced back to Udayana statue during life of the Buddha in India. However, there is more than one version of the mythologic or legendary story and individual differences between them do not disturb the basic religious interpretation of the statue wandering in space and time.
