Abstract

A LA RECHERCHE DU PARADIS (Les aventures merveilleuses de Saint Brandan dans la légende de Benoît et de Julius Zeyer) En étudiant les religions et les idées philosophiques des différentes nations, Zeyer a choisi tout ce qui correspondait à son âme, à son désir et à ses idées d’une humanité meilleure. Les ouvrages dans lesquels Zeyer a adapté des compositions anciennes, nous trouvons une chanson correspondant bien à ces idées mentionnées, menant vers la recherche du Paradis. Il s’agit de La Chronique de saint Brandan, paraphrasant une chanson médiévale du XIIe siècle : Les Voyages merveilleux de saint Brandan à la recherche du Paradis terrestre.

HLEDÁNÍ RÁJE (Zázračná dobrodružství svatého Brandana v Benoîtově a Zeyerově legendě) Při studiu náboženství a filozofických myšlenek různých národů, Julius Zeyer vybíral to, co odpovídalo jeho duši, jeho touze a jeho myšlenkám o lepším lidství. Mezi díly, v nichž Zeyer adaptoval příběhy starých středověkých skladeb, najdeme legendu odpovídající zmíněným představám a přivádějící autora k hledání vlastního ráje. Svou Kronikou o svatém Brandanu básník parafrázoval středověkou skladbu ze dvanáctého století: Les Voyages merveilleux de saint Brandan à la recherche du Paradis terrestre.

Abstract (in English)

THE QUEST FOR PARADISE (Miraculous adventures of St. Brendan in Benoît’s and Zeyer’s legend) During his studies of the religious ideas and philosophical thought of various nations Julius Zeyer concentrated on those which inspired his soul, fulfilled his desires and tallied with his views and hopes of the humanity improved. When adapting old medieval compositions, Zeyer naturally included the one legend which most accorded with his views and which inspired him to commence a quest for his own personal paradise. In his St. Brendan’s Chronicle Zeyer rephrased the 12th century medieval tale Les Voyages merveilleux de saint Brandan à la recherche du Paradis terrestre.
