Abstract

Článek se zabývá problematikou jednodětných rodin v ČR. Autoři si v něm kladou otázku, zda je možné očekávat, že výrazný podíl českých žen a českých mužů naplní své rodičovské aspirace pouze jedním dítětem, takže značná českých rodin bude rodin jednodětných. Na datech ze dvou reprezentativních šetřeních o populačním klimatu autoři nejdříve ukazují, jaké jsou charakteristiky osob, které mají nebo plánují mít pouze jedno dítě. Výsledky naznačují, že v průběhu příštích dvou dekád bude v ČR 20-25 % žen, které na konci svého reprodukčního období budou mít pouze jedno dítě. Faktorem, který k jednodětnosti významně přispívá, je počet sourozenců, které respondent měl ve své orientační rodině: jednináčci budou s velkou pravděpodobností mít ve své rodině prokreační opět pouze jedno dítě. Na druhé straně, život na malém městě nebo na vesnici výrazně snižuje pravděpodobnost, že rodina zůstane pouze u jednoho dítěte.

Abstract (in English)

The present article tackles the phenomenon of one-child family in the Czech Republic. The authors try to answer the question whether it is possible to expect that a significant proportion of the Czech fertility intentions will be fulfilled by conceiving and giving birth to an only child. Can it be assumed that the one-child families will be a significant phenomenon in the Czech society in the years to come? To answer the questions the authors used two different datasets in the analysis. The articel includes a description of socio-demographic characteristics of people who ahve or intend to have just one child. Then they proceed to present some of the covariates that determine whether people have or intent to have one child in comparison with those who have other fertility intentions. Some of the findings indicate that it is likely that about 20-25% of women who finish their reproductive period within the next two decades will have only one child. The results show that being an only child increases the chances of intending to and having only one child. The opposite effect can be noticed when the place of residence is considered - living in small towns and rural areas may have a negative influence on the decision to have only one child.
