Abstract
Varanus sp. from the Early Miocene (MN 4) of Mokrá-Western Quarry site represents one of the oldest known occurrences of this genus in Europe. Comparative studies including preliminary cladistic analysis indicate a close affinity to Indo-Asian varanids.
