Článek je recenzí a polemikou s knihou geologa Václava Cílka a fyzika Martina Kašíka Nejistý plamen - průvodce ropným světem. Autor recenze oceňuje neideologický přístup obou vědců a schopnost polemizovat jak s environmentálním pesimismem 70. let, tak s technokratickým optimismem neoliberální ekonomie. Polemická část recenze se soustředí na velmi libovolnou práci s pojmovým aparátem některých společenských věd a tendenci v otázkách vývoje společnosti sklouzávat k historicistním předpovědím.

The article is a review and polemics with the book of geologist Václav Cílek and physicist Martin Kašík Uncertain Flame – guide to the world of gas. The author of the review values the nonideological approach of both scientists and their capability to polemize both environmental pessimism of the 70s and technological optimism of neoliberal economy. The polemic part of the review is focused on very arbitrary work with the conceptual appliance of some social science and the tendency in terms of society development to resemble to historic prognosis.
