TY - JOUR ID - 727264 AU - Ivanov, Martin PY - 2007 TI - Fossil vertebrates from karstic areas in Moravia with respect to the Moravian Karst, Czech Republic PB - Masaryk University CY - Brno SN - 9788021043688 KW - Vertebrate assemblages;palaeoecology;Moravian Karst;Cenozoic N2 - Moravian Karst is an important area where numerous vertebrate localities have been discovered. Most localities are of the Late Pleistocene age. However, the Early Miocene Mokrá-Western Quarry site is of particular importance because this locality represents the oldest known vertebrate locality in Moravian karstic areas. As regards the Early Pleistocene localities, important assemblages have been reported especially in northern part of the Moravian Karst. The presence of Mediterranean taxa, observed especially in herpetofauna, indicate the warm conditions. The Late Pleistocene vertebrate localities come exclusively from the Last glacial cycle. The detalied stratification of several localities indicate several climatic changes. The postglacial history of vertebrate aggemblages in the area of the Moravian Karst reflects not only the arrival of the Holocene climatic optimum but also increasing influence of human activity.
