Abstract

Až donedávna věnoval výzkum na poli sociologie rodiny a populačních studií málo pozornosti mužům a jejich roli při rozhodování o počtu dětí v rodině. Nový pohled na roli muže při vyjednávání o počtu dětí v rodině může být užitečný při snahách porozumět trvalému poklesu porodnosti ve vyspělých společnostech. Tento článek se zabývá reprodukčními preferencemi mužů a žen v České republice. Cílem je porozumět jejich rolím při vzájemném vyjednávání a rozhodování o budoucí reprodukci. Voasova teorie konfliktních preferencí předpokládá odlišnost mezi mužem a ženou v páru, pokud jde o preferovaný počet dětí. V datech z České republiky nalézáme tyto odlišnosti v minimální míře a neobjevujeme v nich žádnou strukturu, způsobenou dalšími proměnnými.

Abstract (in English)

Researchers and scholars have paid little attention to male reproductive behaviour and the role they play when decisions are made about how many children a family has. David Voas (2003) came up with a theory that adds to the understanding of the role men play in the reproductive decision-making process. This article deals with the reproductive behaviour of men and women in the Czech Republic. Its goal is to understand their role in the negotiation and decision processes. Voasís theory of conflicting preferences assumes that there are differences between men and women with regard to the preferred number of children a couple has. The authors analysis, based on Czech data, shows that the differences in preferences are small and no statistically significant determinants were found in the analysis. The negotiation process within a couple, planned parenthood, Hakimís typology of lifestyle preferences for paid work and family, age, and educational heterogamy have no influence on the differences in the preferences of a couple. The study indicates that the conflicting preference theory does not yet apply to Czech society.
