Rozdělení ruské metropolie na litevskou a moskevskou vyvolalo v litevském prostředí tendence ke hledánícesty k církevní unii. Stoupenci unie, mezi nimiž laikové i osoby duchovního stavu, spatřovali ideál ve formulaci unie přijaté ve Florencii a hledali v římském papeži svého ochránce a protektora. Papež jim měl pomoci vyřešit vztahy s polskými a litevskými biskupy a zbavit se tíživých problémů - např. druhého křtu.
In English
The fact of division of the Russain Metropolie into Lithuanian and Moscow revived in the Lituanian society the tendencies leading to the church union. The followers of this union, clergymen and laymen, weere continuying the conclusion of the Florentine union and they wanted to see the Romish Pope as their ally and protector. The Pope was supposed to help them to resolve the relationship with Polish and Lithuanian Catholic bishops.
