Besides the semi-permeable membrane devices (SPMDs), recently the use of single phase materials for passive sampling is becoming more popular. In this research, critical relevant properties of single phase materials including low density polyethylene (LDPE), polyoxymethylene (POM), polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), other silicone rubbers (SRs) and EXACT polymer were estimated. Diffusion coefficients (D) of Naphthalene (Naph), Fluoranthene (Flu), Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) and Dibenz(ah)anthracene (DBahA) were measured in all the materials investigated. Other properties that are characteristic for each material (resistance to solvents, glass transition temperature (Tg), release of oligomers, solubility (S) of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in materials, permeability (P)) were evaluated in relation to D. Higher diffusion and permeability was observed in all SRs than in LDPE and EXACT. Therefore, SRs are suitable for use as passive samplers. POM does not seem to be a permeable material. ER -
