N2 - East Central European cities, as places of post-socialist transition, usually remain out of sight in the context of the discourse about the future of the European City. The comparison with consequences of similar trends in Western Europe and Eastern Germany will contribute to a better understanding of the new patterns of urban development. The attention will be paid “secondary cities” with population of more than 200 000 in Poland and Czechia. Case studies are carried out in Gdańsk, Łódż, Brno and Ostrava. Especially old built-up areas in the inner cities are investigated.
