N2 - This qualitative study investigates motivational factors, consequences and other aspects of searching for sex via online erotic contact sites. Seeking an offline sexual partner relates to, among other things, rejecting the concept of monogamy, a desire for transcendence of everyday life, simple extrication from an unsatisfactory coexistence and yearning for a stable partner for occasional sex. These results become more intelligible when looked at from the perspectives of postmodern theories: plastic sexuality, liquid love, and the concept of sensualistic society. It seems that these categories are connected with social changes which the above mentioned theories try to capture. Thus our findings indicate that general social changes could influence sexual behavior on the internet. At the same time it is impossible to exclude that the internet might support the observed changes.
