Aquatic environment represents a very complex ecosystem providing wide range of habitats containing huge diversity of prokaryotic organisms. Gram-negative, oxidase positive fermenting rods are ubiquitous microbiota in the freshwater sources and members of the genus Aeromonas are often found among them. Infections with Aeromonas species support an increasing interest of microbiologists in these bacteria. The presented study is a part of the project dealing with diversity of aeromonads in the freshwater environment. Our findings demonstrate a case of misidentification of less-frequent environmental species based on biotyping only. There is evident the necessity of application of molecular or chemotaxonomic methods for confirmation of unusual identification results. This is the first report of the presence of Aquitalea sp. strain in water sources located in the Czech Republic; the strain was deposited in the Czech Collection of Microorganisms as Aquitalea sp. CCM 7557.

Vodní prostředí reprezentuje velice rozmanitý ekosystém s obrovskou diverzitou prokaryotních organizmů. Tato studie je součástí projektu pojednávajícím o diverzitě aeromonád ve vodním prostředí a naš zjištění poukazují na případ chybné identifikace založené pouze na biotypizaci. Jedná se o první průkaz bakterie Aquitalea sp. v ČR a kmen byl deponován v České sbírce mikroorganismů jako Aquitalea sp. CCM 7557.
