The book presents an integral overview of the economic and to a certain degree also of the social geography, which is closely connected to the more extensive economic section. Ten chapters gradually discuss partial subjects and selected general topics from within social-geographic sciences: development of the modern geographic thinking, geography of population, settlement, agriculture, industry, transportation, services and tourism, worldwide environmental problems and regionalization. There is an emphasis on the macrospace of the world, or rather on its partial regions, in certain cases there are added references to the Czech Republic for the purpose of comparison. Every chapter includes brief history of the particular science besides the explanation itself. This book is designated for university students of regional, economic and social studies and also for wider public. This book is the result of cooperation between specialists from Brno Olomouc and České Budějovice.
