Trenérství, jež tvoří klíčovou součást sportu na všech úrovních, představuje profesi rozličných podob, která od svých vykonavatelů vyžaduje nejen široké odborné znalosti, ale také osobnostní předpoklady, sociální dovednosti a vlastní hlubokou sportovní empirii. Pro profesní rozvoj sportovního trenéra jsou důležité okolnosti, které určily jeho cestu ke sportu a především k vlastnímu trenérství. Příspěvek vymezuje vybrané koncepce trenérské profese a okolnosti spojené s nástupem do této profese. Teoretické pojednání je doplněno o výsledky empirického šetření zaměřeného na okolnosti cesty ke sportu a k trenérství.

The paper is a theoretical-empirical introduction to the issue of project The Coach, Embarking on a Coaching Career and its Development, carried out by the Department of sports pedagogy at the Faculty of Sports Studies MU. The authors perceive coaching as a profession of various forms requiring from its practitioners not only extensive expert knowledge, but also personal dispositions and social skills. The key of the coach's success is usually in the relationship with athletes, motivation, trust and personal commitment. The theoretical part is complemented by particular results of research - a quantitative investigation focused on the problems of embarking on a sport and coaching career.
