Tato antologie reflektuje proměny českého myšlení o filmu v letech 1904 až 1950, tj. od doby, kdy se hlavní atrakcí biografů staly hrané filmy a kdy začínala veřejná debata o jejich kulturním významu, až do zrušení poválečného Čs. filmového ústavu, který byl poslední výspou relativně svobodného filmologického bádání.

The anthology reflects the development of Czech thought on film from 1904 to 1950; i.e., from the period when fiction films were becoming the main attraction in cinemas and debates started to arise about the new mediums cultural significance, until the liquidation of the Czechoslovak Film Institute, the last stronghold of relatively free film scholarship.
