This paper provides a brief outline of past and present issues related to computer game culture and its use within the Czech Republic literacy efforts. It points out on crucial domestic research and publishing activities to date and strengthens the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation and wider and prejudice-free public and scientific acceptance of digital games as a worthwhile field of study. It concludes that building a coherent, publicly accepted and expertly-advised workforce in computer game literacy and granting this body an easy access to teachers, pupils and society is a key component in prospective development of game literacy in the Czech Republic where, however, computer games are still mostly considered a sort of minority, a matter of simple fun or as an out-of-the school activity having no direct social responsibility to broader society.
