Abstract
The paper presents a method for estimation of ultrasound attenuation coefficient maps of tissues using ultrasound transmission tomography. The potential application of the methods is breast cancer diagnostics. The contribution is focused on a solution of the inverse Radon transform by means of algebraic reconstruction techniques. An extension is suggested which makes the inverse Radon transform more robust with respect to measurement errors and limited sender-receiver combinations. This is achieved by regularization of the reconstruction technique which induces smoothness of the final image while preserving edges. The method is evaluated on simulated data.
