TY - CONF ID - 796096 AU - Nejedlá, Petra - Norek, Adam - Žákovská, Alena PY - 2008 TI - Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and other spirochetes in ticks and mosquitoes. From borreliae to unknown spirochetes. KW - spirochetes KW - ticks KW - mosquitoes KW - DFM KW - PCR N2 - In our study we wanted to examine Ixodes ricinus ticks and different species of mosquitoes for the presence of pathogennic borreliae. We used two method: 1. Dark Field Microscopy (DFM) - detection of spirochetes 2. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) - detection of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato DNA We found significantly higher positivity of ticks for borreliae compared to mosquitoes. There was the big discrepance in DFM and PCR positivity. It could be caused by PCR sensitivity (101 copies of DNA) and probably by the presence of other spirochetes. We isolated two bacteria strains from Culex (Culex) pipiens s.l., the first one was identified as B. afzelii, the second one identified as non B.b.s.l. ER -
