The chapter presents an overview of the invertebrate and vertebrate fauna of the major types of floodplain forests in the temperate zone of Europe, based on an extensive literature search and information obtained directly from specialists on the individual animal groups. Key ecological factors that characterize the given environment are described and the current level of our knowledge on animal communities in the individual forest strata or in important types of microhabitat are presented. The text is accompanied by colour images of animals living in floodplain forests.

Kapitola podává přehled o fauně bezobratlých i obratlovců v hlavních typech lužních lesů v mírném pásmu Evropy. Činí tak na základě rozsáhle literární rešerše i informací získaných přímo od odborníků na jednotlivé skupiny. Popisuje klíčové ekologické faktory, které dané prostředí charakterizují, a představuje stav naších znalostí o společenstvech živočichů v jednotlivých patrech lesa či významných typech mikrostanovišť.Text je doprovázen barevnými vyobrazeními živočichů žijících v lužních lesích.
