Abstract
The main goal of this contribution is to discover the main differences between less successful and more successful small and medium enterprises with respect to ICT competencies. The successful implementation of ICT is one of the key factors of their long term growth. During the research data have been collected within 30 enterprises using multiple interviews in the long term period. These companies were analyzed by using the Peppard and Ward framework of 26 ICT competencies. Some companies had developed significantly more ICT competencies than the others and these competencies help them to be more successful and competitive. We use data mining methods, namely decision tree classifiers, clustering and association rules, to discover competencies which strongly influence the long-term growth of a company
