Abstract

Text představuje hlavní teoretické modely šíření jaderných zbraní a motivy pro jejich akvizici státními aktéry. Pozornost věnuje rovněž teoretickým konceptům, které rozpracovávají možné varianty a alternativy budoucího vývoje jaderných arsenálů a role jaderných zbraní. Následně zaměřuje pozornost na vnímání role, kterou jaderným zbraním přikládaly Velká Británie a Francie. Článek analyzuje jejich motivy pro překročení jaderného prahu v období prvního jaderného věku a rovněž zkoumá důvody, jež tyto země vedou k udržování jaderného arsenálu v éře po studené válce. Autoři poukazují na skutečnost, že obě země měly pro získání vlastních jaderných zbraní více důvodů, a to nikoliv pouze bezpečnostního charakteru. Vzhledem k tomu, že některé sehrávají svoji roli v jejich jaderné politice i v současnosti, lze se domnívat, že Velká Británie a Francie budou mít ambici zachovat si jaderný status i v následujících desetiletích.

Abstract (in English)

The article outlines the main theoretical models of nuclear proliferation and the motives that are driving states to obtain nuclear weapons. It also focuses on theoretical concepts dealing with variants and alternatives of future fate of nuclear arsenals and roles played by nuclear weapons. Attention is also paid to the roles of nuclear weapons in the past views of Great Britain and France. The article analyses their motives for joining the nuclear club and also the reasons that lead them to keep their nuclear arsenals in the second nuclear age. The authors conclude that these two countries were driven to cross the nuclear threshold not just by security motives, but by other motives as well. Because of the fact that some such motives remain relevant even today, it is rather unlikely to presume that the two states would be willing to abolish their nuclear arsenals in the foreseeable future.
