Abstract

The study examined the relation between the separate specific domains of physical self-concept: global self-esteem (the overall positive or negative feeling about one's self) and body fat considering age and gender in adolescents - basketball players. The respondents (54 man, 41 woman) were divided into two age groups. An ordinary Introductory Questionnaire of 20 items was compiled in order to describe the population. To analyze the interaction effects for our researched factors (gender and age involvement), MANOVA and correlation were calculated. Significance level was chosen to be 10%. The results proved our assumption that females tended to have more negative evaluation of the body fat then males regardless of their age. The differences in the evaluation on global self-esteem were revealed by age, but not by gender. Global self-esteem was found to be more positive in younger adolescent than in older basketball players regardless of their gender.

Studie zkoumala vztah mezi jednotlivými specifickými doménami tělesného pojetí: sebehodnocení (celkový pozitivní nebo negativní pocit) a tělesného hodnocení ve vztahu k věku a pohlaví u adolescentů basketbalistů. Naše studie zkoumala 95 adolescentů basketbalistů (54 mužů a 41 žen) z různých týmů v Praze a Brně. Respondenti byli rozděleni do dvou věkových skupin (I. - 13-15 let a II. -16-18 let). Sestavili jsme dotazník o 20 položkách a dále jsme použili dotazník PSDQ (Marsh et al., 1994). Oba dotazníky byly anonymní. K analýze vzájemných účinků našich zkoumaných faktorů (pohlaví a věk) jsme použili MANOVA (multivariační analýza rozptylu) a korelaci. Hladina statistické významnosti byla stanovena na 10 %. Výsledky potvrdili předpoklad, že ženy mají tendenci většího negativního hodnocení na základě svého tělesného složení než muži bez ohledu na jejich věku. Druhá část se zaměřuje na měření sebeúcty. Rozdíly v hodnocení sebeúcty byly objeveny v závislosti na věku, ale ne podle pohlaví. Pozitivní sebehodnocení se prokazuje více u mladších než u starších hráčů, bez ohledu na jejich pohlaví.
