Critical incidents are analyzed using the life story method. For the purpose of this paper, paths of headteachers was followed only from secondary school graduation to the first stage of headteacher position. Within this period, several key critical incidents were revealed, in the following order: choice of studies programme master degree, the experience of professional fulfilment, invitation to position, succession to the position, acceptance of a career change. These events were used as a basis for specifying the educational needs of headteachers regarding support of career management skills. Our data pointed to the important finding that educational needs of headteachers for career management skills development is limited by the very fact that their professional path are in education.
