TY - JOUR ID - 838495 AU - Hofman, Jakub - Čermák, Pavel - Sáňka, Milan - Vácha, Radim PY - 2008 TI - Application of sediments on agricultural soils: status quo, potential, and limits PB - Ostravská Univerzita CY - Ostrava SN - 9788073684518 KW - soil KW - dredged sediment N2 - The objective of this contribution is to introduce the actual problems related to the sediment application on agricultural soils. High volumes of sediment are removed from rivers, streams and ponds routinely. The subsequent usage of the dredged sediments is an important environmental topic. This material is reach of nutrients and organic matter, but also contains high levels of contaminants and the awareness of this contamination causes that the dredged sediments are mostly treated as wastes. This leads to administrative difficulties, economical losses and environmental problems. Special legislative for the dredged sediments does not exist and their management is related to the several separated legislatives. New directive for the dredged sediments has been developed since 2005, but it is not still valid and it has also several parts which shall be improved. A new project has been started in 2008 which is focused on the new directive adjustment and on the measuring new experimental results. It should help in the future to decide correctly if to handle the sediments as beneficial substrate or as wastes. ER -
