V originále
A case of blood culture-negative aortic and mitral valve infective endocarditis caused by Tropheryma whipplei is reported. The 33-year old man showed no other symptoms of Whipple's disease except in arthralgias. Disease was complicated by recurrent cerebral and left upper limb embolisation of vegetations. Causative agent was detected in the valve samples using broad-range polymerase chain reaction. Patient underwent successful surgery (aortic and mitral valve replacement) and his clinical state was good during several months' duration of antibiotic treatment.
