TY - GEN ID - 846879 AU - Veverková, Lenka PY - 2002 TI - Determining the risk of morphological and functional damage of nervus saphenus in dependence on the position of n. saphenus and v. saphena magna N1 - 1st Prize at the 3rd Annual Meeting European Venous Forum Meeting in Berlin KW - nervus saphenus, varicose vein UR - http://www.europeanvenousforum.org/prize_winn.htm N2 - Illnesses of veins of the lower limbs are among the most frequent illnesses, they affect 10 to 25 per cent of the population. Current methods of examination reliably determine the insufficiency of individual valves of the surface and deep vascular system. Surgical methods have also been developed in detail. Complications at varix surgeries of the lower limbs are very rare. For the patient a very unpleasant, albeit not serious, complication is the damage of nervus saphenus at complete stripping of the vena saphena magna. This paper offers the results of an anatomical study of 86 cadaverous limbs, description of the interrelationship of the nervus saphenus and vena saphena magna in the area of the shin, including a histological examination. Further, the occurrence of the lesion of n. saphenus following a surgery was examined in the cases of 215 patients. It is clear from the results that there is a statistically significant difference in the position of the nerve in relation to the vein in the area of the distal third of the shin. According to the tight or loose position between v.saphena magna a n.saphenus it is possible to assess the higher or lower risk of morphological and functional damage of n.saphenus. When taking into account patients’ subjective feelings of lesion, statistical significance was not found immediately after the surgery, neither was it found half a year after surgery. Functional consequences of damaged nervus saphenus gain statistical significance only after 12 months. ER -
