Abstract

Kontakty evropských misionářů a kolonistů se severoamerickými indiánskými kulturami vyvolaly připodobnění indiánských mýtů k evropským kulturním archetypům. Příkladem tohoto synkretismu je připodobnění mýtu o putování duší zemřelých k mýtu o Orfeovi. Tento mýtus, zaznamenaný jezuitkým misionářem Jeanem de Brébeuf, byl později uveden do moderní literatury. Příkladem je román Beautiful Losers anglofonního montrealského autora Leonarda Cohena (1966) a Le Ciel de Québec (1969) quebeckého autora Jacquese Ferrona.

Abstract (in English)

The Canadian multiculturalism involves, as a component, a syncretism of mythological representations. The mythology of the First Nations has often been assimilated to the European archetypes, as the narrative of the travel of the souls to the Village of the Dead shows. Written down by the Jesuit missionary Jean de Brébeuf, this myth has been incorporated into modern literary creation, which is demonstrated in two examples: the novel Beautiful Losers (1966) by the Anglophone Montreal writer Leonard Cohen and the one by the Quebecois writer Jacques Ferron, Le Ciel de Québec (1969).
