Abstract

V originále

We present a system for designing geometric sculptures in semi-immersive virtual environment. The design of our application is based on polyhedra sculptures - the same idea that G. W. Hart used for his "Sculptures from symmetrically arranged planar components". Our main contribution is the utilization of new interaction techniques. Thanks to a visualization method combining stereoscopy and classic rendering methods, users - artists have much better perception of complex spatial shape of the sculpture. Spatial, human-scale input provides intuitive way to manipulate and modify sculpture directly in the VE. This new working environment allows users to focus more on a designing task. In this paper we describe the a concept of polyhedra based sculptures, virtual environment and virtual tools for working with the shape of sculpture, interaction techniques and auxiliary elements for facilitation of a design process.
