Abstract

The conference focuses on the legacy of the non-democratic past of Central European countries. Unlike the more common approaches stressing the radical nature of ruptures accompanying the demise of communist regimes in the region, twenty years after the fall, both the scientific community and Central and Eastern European societies are probably ready to accept a more detailed account of prevailing - but also of transformed - social and political practices. The conference is based on an interdisciplinary or multi-disciplinary approach towards the late communist period of the 1980s and its legacy to the present day. It will offer uncommon methods and topics to the wider academic community as well as to the interested public. An institutionalized coming to terms with the past, as the key panel of the conference, will be presented through the comparative prism of transitional justice, a field well known in Western social sciences but less known terrain in the East.

Abstract (in Czech)

Konference se zaměří na dědictví nedemokratické minulosti zemí střední a východní Evropy. Od počátku 90. let se reflexe komunismu i tzv. proces vyrovnávání se s komunismem soustředily především na "velké" politické dějiny, diskuse o pádu režimu zdůrazňovala zejména diskontinuitu a soustřeďovala se na vnější znaky politických systémů. Obsah vyrovnání se s komunistickým dědictvím ovšem nespočívá jen v poznání nejtvrdších represivních projevů, ale také ve zkoumání běžnějších každodenních vzorců chování. Ze společenského hlediska byl pád komunismu jistě významným předělem, jenomže sociální praktiky a kulturní vzorce se nemění ze dne na den. Dvacet let od pádu komunistické vlády by česká společnost měla být připravena pohlédnout podrobněji a důkladněji na dědictví, které nám po komunismu zbylo. Pro představení problematiky pozdního komunismu v 80. letech a jeho odkazu pro dnešek volí konference mezioborový přístup. Vědecké komunitě i širší veřejnosti nabídne méně obvyklá témata a metodické postupy. Klíčové téma - institucionální vyrovnávání se s minulostí - bude prezentováno v komparativním pohledu "transitional justice", tedy v oboru, který je na Západě již etablován, avšak ve střední a východní Evropě zatím zůstává mimo hlavní proud.
