TY - JOUR ID - 869296 AU - Mosher, Jack T - Pemberton, Trevor J - Harter, Kristina - Wang, Chaolong - Busbas, Erkan O - Dvořák, Petr - Simón, Carlos - Morrison, Sean J - Rosenberg, Noah A PY - 2009 TI - Lack of Population Diversity in Human Embryonic Stem-Cell Lines JF - New England Journal of Medicine VL - 362 IS - 2 SP - 183-185 EP - 183-185 SN - 00284793 KW - human embryonic stem cell KW - population diversity N2 - We determined the genetic ancestry of large collection of stem-cell lines. We have found that widely distributed stem-cell lines lack population diversity and that none of these lines derive from populations with recent African ancestry. Efforts to derive and disseminate new stem-cell lines should now emphasize underrepresented pupulations, to allow researchers to assess the extent to which the ancestry of stem-cell lines influences diesease models, cellular therapies, and drug screening with the use of stem cells.
