Abstract
Current secondary geographical education rarely allows practical training of geographic information systems. If teachers teach GIS (at any way) then it is limited to GIS viewers of spatial data or the most famous examples of commercial systems. The main aim of the article is an example of a pilot project implemented at 20 secondary schools in the South Moravian Region to introduce the possibility of learning GIS using freely available (open source) tools.
